The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation has announced that it will sponsor an International Mesothelioma Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma from Thursday, June 26 - Saturday, June 28 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C.
According to a press release by the foundation, the symposium “will highlight the latest advances in research and treatment for patients and caregivers, offer psychosocial support to them as well as those who have lost someone to the disease, and provide significant advocacy and volunteer opportunities for all who are intent on eradicating the vicious and terminal effects of this tragic cancer.”
The foundation notes that Day 1 of the symposium will be dubbed an Advocacy Day, featuring “a rallying cry to the House of Representatives to move quickly on legislation banning asbestos and providing research funding for meso and asbestos related diseases.” Day 2 will feature a group of panelists organized to address the “science” of the disease, including discussion of new research and drugs in the fight against malignant mesothelioma. Day 3 will be devoted to the community of meso patients and their families and caregivers and will feature a tribute ceremony to memorialize those who passed away from the disease, featuring the unveiling of a tribute wall listing the names of the deceased.
In addition, a gala dinner on Friday, June 27 will include three award presentations to individuals who have made special contributions to the cause.
